Believe: Why Everyone Should Be Religious

by Ross Douthat

The Spiritual Growth Team invites you to join our “book club” from May through August as we explore Believe: Why Everyone Should Be Religious by Ross Douthat. This thought-provoking book explores how religious belief helps us understand the cosmos, our place within it, and the mystery of consciousness. It offers a pathway from doubt to belief and helps us find confidence in our purpose.

David and Karen Amstutz will host the discussion with the first meeting on Thursday, May 1, at 7:00 PM at their home at 7603 N Pennsylvania Street. Please park on the east side of Penn for traffic flow.

Please read the Introduction and Chapter 1 before the meeting. Pre-register with David Amstutz at davidbamstutz@gmail.com.

Interior Freedom

by Jacques Philippe

This inspiring book is perfect for your bedside table. Jacques Philippe reminds us that, despite difficult circumstances, we have a place of freedom deep within—one that no external force can take away. God is the source of this interior freedom. By connecting to God through faith, hope, and charity, we respond to His call. As we grow in faith, we nurture this space to guide us in tough times. This book seeks to liberate the heart and mind, helping us live the true freedom to which God calls us.

Please join Ellen Moeller for an organizational meeting on Sunday, May 4, at 11:30 AM for a simple lunch after worship at her home. Email Ellen for address and to RSVP. Freeing Jesus

by Diana Butler Bass

“How can you still be a Christian?”

This is the question Diana Butler Bass is most often asked today, as many believers struggle with disappointment in their church and leadership. While some leave the church, they can’t leave their faith behind.

In Freeing Jesus, Bass challenges the idea of understanding Jesus in static, one-dimensional ways. She invites us to see Jesus as a growing, evolving presence—Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence—helping us navigate life’s challenges.

Please join Jim Pfeiffer for an organizational meeting at Tab on Sunday, May 4, at 9:00 AM in the former Nursery. Contact: Jim Pfeiffer at rfpfeif@gmail.com.

The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God

by Justin Brierley

The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God by Justin Brierley explores the resurgence of faith in a secular age. Challenging the idea that belief is in decline, Brierley uses interviews, philosophical arguments, and cultural analysis to show why belief in God is making a comeback. He engages with both believers and skeptics, offering reasons why faith remains relevant today.
